It started by my son-in-law Terrell, going into the gulf water at the Venice beach by Sharkey’s restaurant with a Florida snow shovel, bringing up sand from the ocean floor and piling it on the beach beside me as I bask in the sun.

When my daughter Meredythe and her husband Joey were visiting me over a Christmas, Joey wanted to buy a shovel like Terrell had used and ask me where to go to get it and what to ask for. I told him the name of the store on Venice avenue and said, “Ask for a Florida snow shovel.”
He gave me a big grin. He thought I was playing a trick on him. So………well……I went with them and as the man in the store ask “What can I help you with?” Joey smiled….hesitated for a couple seconds and said, “A Florida snow shovel.” The man turned as he said, ” Oh, yes…they are right over here”.
As my attorney son-in-law Tracy Drake would say, “CASE CLOSED”.
In the meantime my daughter Susie unbeknownst to me, positioned herself to snap these photos.

So………this is the picture she took while I am sitting on the beautiful sunny warm beach on this early November day.
Hey……this just might make a Christmas card……we were not even aware that was a possibility as we went through each of these procedures there on the beach by Sharkey’s restaurant. She even has the Venice fishing peer in the background.
Let’s give it a try, shall we? Here goes!
I’m just lucky enough to have a brother Bugs, who can make this picture into Christmas cards. And sure enough when I send him that picture of me sitting on the beach beside that pile of ocean sand, here is what he created and sent me a hundred and fifty cards with envelopes.
And that Christmas I mailed those cards all over the country to family, friends, clients and business acquaintances.
Don’t be afraid of using all your creative abilities, that can come from very surprising places and photos you already have.
